ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS

Pets with liver disease such as Hepatic Lipidosis, Cholangiohepatitis, Copper Storage disease, or Triaditis demand a multimodal approach to diagnosis that involves blood testing as well as imaging such as x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopic visualization and biopsy. Our doctors are trained and equipped in these disciplines as well as surgical exploratory when indicated.

We see many pets with endocrine diseases such as Cushing’s disease, Addison’s disease, Adrenal disease of ferrets, insulinoma, Diabetes, and thyroid disorders. Extensive and specific blood tests are often required for diagnosis and for treatment monitoring of these conditions. We partner with multiple referral laboratories that supplement our routine in house testing to provide the needed diagnostics.

We can also provide DNA screening for genetic diseases such as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) in cats, Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) in Laboradors, Boxer Dog Cardiomyopathy, and others. These tests are valuable tools when deciding which dogs should be used for breeding but can also be useful in diagnosing or ruling out certain diseases in individuals.

Kidney injury and kidney disease in dogs and cats are serious conditions that require specialized care. Our internal medicine team utilizes advanced diagnostic tools and treatment options to manage renal disease, providing comprehensive support for pets with compromised kidney function.

Heart murmurs and irregular heart rhythms (Arrhythmias) detected on routine physical exams are always worthy of further investigation. They can be indications of serious heart dysfunction such as Congestive heart failure (CHF), Mitral Valve disease, Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs, or Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) in cats. Our veterinarians are well acquainted with the imaging required to diagnose these conditions and their treatment. When necessary, we partner with cardiology specialists to develop individualized treatment plans to manage heart failure and improve cardiac function.

Disorders of the gastrointestinal tract such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), Lymphangiectasia, Biliary Mucocele, are just a few of the specific diseases that we occasionally see. More commonly our patients come in for gastrointestinal disturbances that result from food allergies, intolerance, and stress. Many of these are managed successfully with diet manipulation and supplements.
